The PaleoStats Conference I (PSC I) builds on previous PaleoChronology Building Workshops from the last decade (17-21 August 2010: San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, 8-12 January 2018, Campeche, Mexico).

This hands-on event will focus on, but is not limited to, the production of robust and reliable chronologies for paleoenvironmental records. Our aim is to facilitate exchanges between statisticians/modellers and those working on past changes (paleoecologists, geologists, statisticians and others).

We will host a series of invited talks, submitted papers and posters, and practical computer-based workshops using the latest software and packages. These will cover the latest dating techniques across short and long timescales, and a range of approaches to age-depth modelling from radiometric methods to independent markers (210Pb, 14C, U/Th, tephra, pollen, etc).

Themes will also extend beyond chronology-building and into larger questions related to PaleoStats and using chronologies, including evaluating the magnitude and synchronicity of events in proxy and geochemical records, matching paleo data with instrumental measurements, and uncertainty quantification in annual records (e.g., dendrochronology, varves, ice cores).
